Studies table: rename columns and add custom fields

Product: Database Explorer Applies to: the studies list, the study editor, the study filter, Excel export, and DICONDE import/export

Both changes are configuration only. Edit the files next to the executable, then restart the Database Explorer. The application reads each file once at startup.

File What it controls
NdtExplorer.exe.xaml Display names of built-in study columns and the matching labels
DicomCustomTags.config.xml Extra fields: column header, editor, filter, stored value, DICONDE tag

The installer ships NdtExplorer.exe.xaml in the application folder. DicomCustomTags.config.xml must sit in the application folder (the same folder as the executable). If that file is missing or invalid, no custom columns are shown.

1. Rename a built-in column

A built-in column keeps the English header from the application unless NdtExplorer.exe.xaml defines a string resource for it. When the resource exists, that text replaces the header in both study lists. The same text is also used for the field label in the study editor and in the filter, with a colon appended.

Keys

Resource key Default header
ComponentNameText Component Name
ComponentIdText Component ID
ComponentOwnerNameText Owner
StudyDescriptionText Description
OrderIdText Order ID
StudyIdText Study ID
RequestedJobIdText Job ID
RequestedJobDescriptionText Job Description
InspectorNameText Inspector

These columns have no resource key. Their headers stay as shipped: YOM, Modality, Facility, Station, Status, Date, Time.

Steps

  1. Close the Database Explorer.
  2. Open NdtExplorer.exe.xaml in the application folder.
  3. Inside the ResourceDictionary, add one s:String per column you want to rename.
  4. Save the file and start the Database Explorer.
<s:String x:Key="ComponentNameText">Part</s:String>
<s:String x:Key="ComponentIdText">Serial No</s:String>
<s:String x:Key="StudyDescriptionText">Weld</s:String>
<s:String x:Key="OrderIdText">Work Order</s:String>
<s:String x:Key="StudyIdText">Report ID</s:String>

If a key is omitted, the default English header stays. An unknown key is ignored. Do not rename the key itself; only change the text between the tags.
